Guest Speaker #2 - Coach Vic Mitchel

Coach Mitchell started off as a computer science major at UGA, he felt like he wanted to do something else. Which is why he went to the basketball coach during this time and volunteered his services as a coach for the summer camps at the school. This lead to him being the UGA mens GA for when the team went to the final four (the only team in school history to do this). The cool experiences he had as a GA was all down to volunteering the summer camps.

In the fall of 1986 Vic had a job ready for him at a middle school in Cobb county which he turned down to interview for the womens head basketball coach at Reinhardt college, he ended up getting the job. After four years at the school he decided to take the job at Shorter Uni. This is mainly because of recruiting and the fact it was a four year school. RC at the time was only two year.

Since Coach Mitchell has been at shorter he has taken over several roles, and only until the last couple of years has he been able to concentrate on basketball again. Golf, cross country, and AD were some of the other roles he undertook whilst at shorter.

As a leader, Coach Mitchell feels like philosophies are very important. He gave the class several of these, the one that stood out the most to me was ' the worst thing you can do for someone is something they can do for themselves' . I really enjoyed todays speech, I feel like Coach Mitchell taught everyone a valuable lesson not only in coaching but in life aswell.
